White-painted houses and streets and women dressed in black. This contrast turns Ettore Della Giovanna’s fantasy on, the journalist who invented that “La Città Bianca” with which Ostuni has become famous in Italy and, successively, at international level. In fact, more than 70 years ago from that definition (1941), the white-mortar painting of houses, rooftops and alleys of the town remains the main characteristic of the old town. We are at 218 metres above sea level, about 40 kilometres away from the provincial capital Brindisi and less than 10 kilometres away from the coast. The coast is bathed by crystal clear water, rewarded five stars of Legambiente and the certification of Blue Flag beach, for more than 20 years. Fame comes from these conditions. Honorable mention for the amazing farms of the heartland and several churches both in the old town and in the most recent areas. Above all, obviously, the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta with its wonderful ancient-goth marking façade. This is out of sight!
